This course covers the following three major areas:

Chemical reaction principle

• Gases
• Thermodynamics and Chemical Reaction Kinetics
• Chemical Equilibrium: Acid-Base Equilibrium and Precipitation-Solubility Equilibrium
• Redox Reaction and Electrochemistry


Material structure foundation
• Atomic Structure
• Molecular Structure
• Solid structure
• Coordination Compound Structure

Element chemistry
• The properties of the Elements and its compounds in in the periodic table

Reading Assignments

Readings of relevant pages in several standard texts are listed per lecture. It is expected that you will spend 5-10 minutes previewing each day's lecture notes before class.

Homework

Problem sets will be assigned per lecture. The problem sets will be due in class. Late problem sets will not be accepted although adjustments for missed homework due to prearranged absences will be made in the final grades.

Grading

Final course grades will be based on the following table.
